Radio Online

So one of my big projects for 2005 is to create an adequate website for art-audio-open source and other stuff in my web of interests (cough! Linux cough! pc games cough!). Well, I talked to Gustavo back in December and he gave me the ok for this project. The site will be a Drupal site; so I need to know about PHP, MySQL and Apache. It might also feature a blog, so WordPress will be my first choice--sorry Blogger. And of course, internet radio will be featured. Now tonight I stumbled upon aacPLUS (via Fimoculous and more specifically via The Current) a relative new codec for streaming audio, I am current listen to Mingus in stereo, CD quality at 32 kps. If this stream was being webcast as a mp3, 32 kps bitrate sounds scratchy and poppy, like an old used record. But I am a believer in this new codec. Now I am not sure who owns it, what is its accompanying license and what software I need to brodcast in it but I will find out soon and I'll report again.

PS: Paul Boutin already wrote about this sweet audio thing at Slate. The developer of this technology is Coding Technologies. Tuner2 has listing of some great radio station--Eric Dolphy is genius!
